−1:1 Architects were commissioned by William Angliss Institute to undertake the schematic design through to contract administration for the refurbishment of an existing bistro kitchen, and four new training kitchens.

−The bistro kitchen required a total refurbishment of the existing space, which operates as a commercial kitchen serving a bistro restaurant. Our brief was to design, in consultation with our consultants, and upgrade all services and equipment, and provide an open kitchen environment with transparency through to the restaurant. Using colour and full-height glass to the entry of the kitchen, this creates connection from the chefs to the customers.

−Our brief for the training kitchens included providing a design to accommodate three unit kitchens and a demonstration kitchen to fit an existing area of the Institute, with the three unit kitchens all sharing access to a central wash-up and preparation area. Our response was to provide interconnectivity and flexibility by designing visual links and connections via vision panels and internal finishes. Students and visitors have the opportunity to see through to all spaces and feel connected visually and physically.
