−1:1 Architects were commissioned to undertake the refurbishment of the existing post graduate student lounge involved turning an unused former commercial training kitchen into the new post grad computer lab.

−Accommodating an open plan of 16no. computer terminals, requiring 24 hour access and separation from the lounge. The new lab required a total upgrade of services, and materials. An original window of the 1905 building was reinstated to allow more natural light to filter the space, and the original brickwork was exposed to celebrate the historical significance of the building.

−In the lounge area, the toilets were upgraded and shower facilities provided. A new kitchenette and new furniture was provided also to freshen and calm the space to encourage and support the students’ use of the space including, reading, group work, resting and research.

−The design uses a neutral palette of plywood, charcoal and white, with a vibrant blue accenting the hot desk zone.
