Concept

–A new-build multi-residential building comprising 45 one and two-bedroom apartments with a ground floor and basement retail unit and a communal roof garden area for residents.

–The building is designed to achieve 5 stars in the Green Star Multi-Unit Residential assessment.

–The building is located on Dudley Street in West Melbourne, on a small site with setbacks required at the fifth and fourteenth levels. The building’s design concept draws from the verticality of the form, featuring a two-tone base palette of cladding materials that seeks to create rhythm across the facade.

–Use of timber at the ground floor and podium levels breaks up the verticality of the building while bringing a warmth to the facade and its external areas.

–The ground floor retail area is marked by a striking white acrylic clad canopy in a fluid wave form that wraps up the east side of the building, adding to the identity of the building at street level.

–Each apartment features a ‘winter garden’ which offers the residents flexibility and control of their environments. Bifolding glazed screens can be completely opened and closed, allowing the occupants to experience this area as either an outdoor area or as an extension of their living space.
