-The Yakitori Bar was a commission from Prahran Market to add a permanent food vendor to the current market area. Previously the site had been occupied by temporary structures, which were not engaging with the public at the north-east entrance.

-Investigation into Japanese food and architecture led to the appreciation of very specific and individual elements. Basic elements such as the ceiling, structure and joinery, were recognised as having a crucial role in creating a balanced interior.

-The final design aimed to balance these elements through a simple palette of timber, steel and concrete. Progressing from the base of concrete, to the timber joinery and finally to the floating steel canopy, careful detailing was used to make distinct but complementary transitions between each material.
