RMIT Building 15

−1:1 Architects were commissioned by RMIT University to design the new International Students Offices and the Centre for Design Offices, located on the first and mezzanine levels of Building 15. The facilities include an information centre accessible to students and a combination of open-plan and private offices for associated staff.

−The 120-degree workstations, layout benches and sliding doors maximise circulation throughout the workspaces. Formal conference areas can be opened up for more informal group meetings, while adaptable storage solutions allow individuals to tailor workspaces to their specific requirements. All materials and furniture selected have been selected based on their environmental credentials, durability and flexibility of use.

−The bold use of colour endeavours to generate a visual identity within the campus. Red fabric ducting can be viewed from street level, emphasising the double-height ceilings while offering a sustainable solution to the building’s exposed services. From the mezzanine level, highlight glazing between the two tenancies visually connects the two separate occupancies and makes the best use of natural light throughout the workspaces, while providing privacy and separation between user groups.
